The MHS Library seeks to support areas of the curriculum, to foster a love of reading and to provide a place where any student can read or work. Students are welcome to use the library during breaks and study times and teachers often bring classes to the Library for reading activities.

The Library is run by the librarian, and is open and staffed daily. The fiction collection is separated into younger and older fiction sections. Non-fiction books are arranged by the Dewey Decimal classification scheme.

Stock is catalogued, issued and returned directly onto the electronic Library management system and the database enables searches of the Library catalogue. Students may borrow 2 books at a time and also reserve items.

The Library has 10 Monitors to help oversee Library matters, five from the Lower School and five from the Senior School. They are involved in organising the library shelves, arranging events and helping to keep the library fresh with new ideas. The Library runs an after school club weekly ‘Music while you read’ and throughout the year holds events which include author visits, book fairs and reading groups.
