Walk for the Wards

Walkers Support Hospice Care

Over 400 walkers gathered in the picturesque village of Frensham on Sunday 1st July, to take part in Phyllis Tuckwell’s annual sponsored Walk for the Wards. This relaxing walk in the beautiful Surrey countryside takes place every year and raises vital funds for local charity Phyllis Tuckwell, which provides supportive and end of life care for patients and families in West Surrey and North East Hampshire, who are living with an advanced or terminal illness such as cancer.

Five and ten mile route options were offered, allowing walkers to choose between a leisurely stroll and a longer ramble, and both routes set off from a new starting point at More House School, with walkers following a path through the stunning Surrey countryside to Shortfield Common and then on to the Great Pond. With hilltop views and waterside walks, the trail really showed off the best of the local countryside, and everyone who took part enjoyed the beautiful scenery and fresh air, before returning to More House School for a well-deserved cream tea!

“We would like to thank everyone who took part in this year’s Walk for the Wards,” said Gemma Craig, Events Fundraising Manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “The weather was perfect and everyone had a wonderful time. All of the money raised will go towards funding the vital care which we provide for over 250 patients, relatives and carers every day - in their own homes, in the community, at the Hospice in Farnham and at the Beacon Centre in Guildford.”

Phyllis Tuckwell would also like to thank Baker Law solicitors for their continued support of Walk for the Wards, More House School who kindly hosted the event, Tesco in Aldershot for kindly donating scones and jam for the cream teas, Dave Porter and the Blackwater Valley Runners for helping to plan the route and put out signs, Kevin Morris and his team of marshals who braved the heat to keep walkers safe, and all of the volunteers who helped to direct car parking, register walkers and provide refreshments.
