Fantastic Sixth Form results despite special educational needs
Triumph over adversity at More House
Pupils at the specialist More House School in Frensham are celebrating A Level and the BTEC equivalent triumph, having overcome the barriers posed by the specific learning and language difficulties.
For many, before they joined More House academic success seemed an impossibility. However, 97% of the A Level and equivalent BTEC certificates awarded to More House pupils in this summer’s results were passes, with 74% of grades at C or above.
More House School’s Headmaster, Jonathan Hetherington, congratulated his pupils on achieving an incredible 37% of certificates awarded at the highest A or A* and Distinction or Distinction* grades.
He praised the “incredible commitment to study demonstrated by More House students, and the highly effective teaching and support provided by our specialist teachers”.
Mr Hetherington noted the school’s 100% pass rate for A-Level equivalent BTEC courses, and this year’s 85% BTEC grades awarded at Merit or higher, equivalent to an A Level C grade or higher.
100% of More House pupils taking the Extended Project Qualification achieved a B grade or higher.
The results are especially impressive since 57% of More House’s Upper Sixth students have a Statement of Special Educational Needs, or the newer Education, Health and Care plan, and a majority accepting university degree places to study courses as diverse as Biochemistry, Politics and International Relations, Physics, and English Literature.
