The School Governors play a vital part in the strategic planning of the school, with many also having day-to-day involvement in particular areas of school life.
Mr Sean Collins - Chair of Governors
Sean has been a governor at the school since 1999. He has an MA in Classics from Cambridge University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has over 40 years in professional accounting practice (27 as partner), including seven years in South East Asia. In the past two years he has held directorships at Millennium & Copthorne Hotels plc and Jersey Telecom. He is a Crown Representative at HM Government Cabinet Office, a committee member at Financial Reporting Council, and a Council member of the Royal Society for Asian Affairs.
Mr John Stares - Deputy Chair of Governors
A Governor since 2001, John is an Imperial College Maths graduate who worked in IT, qualified as a Chartered Accountant and then was with Accenture for 23 years. With Accenture he worked as consultant with clients in most industry sectors and during his 15-year tenure as a partner held a wide variety of leadership roles. Since retiring from Accenture in 2001, John has held Chair/Non-Executive roles with a variety of Operational businesses, Investment Funds and Charities.
Mrs Pam Edworthy
As a former Head of Maths and then Head of Learning Support, SENCO, Pam has a BSc in Maths, a PGCE in secondary education and a Post Graduate Diploma in teaching children with specific learning difficulties, Dip.SpLD. When teaching, as part of the senior team, she had particular involvement in and responsibility to implement teaching and learning strategies throughout the school, to all abilities from Year 7 to Year 13.
Mr Tony Gardner
A governor since 2009, Tony has a BA (Oxon) in Physics and a PhD in Atomic and Nuclear Physics from Reading. His career has been based predominantly in IT security, including running his own consultancy company. He is a member of St John Ambulance and a qualified pilot. Tony's responsibilities as a governor include working alongside the school's designated child protection officers to ensure the safeguarding of children within the school.
Monsignor Jeremy Garratt
Jeremy has been a governor at the school since 2008. He has first degrees in both Philosophy and Sacred Theology, a higher degree in Sacred Theology and a master's degree in Pastoral Theology. Over the years his roles have included parish priest, seminary rector, Chair of the Diocesan Schools Commission, a primary school governor and a tertiary education lecturer.
Mrs Heulwen Maher
A former Head of Department, Head of Sixth Form and member of the Senior Management Team at the school, Heulwen has a BA Hons in RE with History, a PGCE in RE Secondary Education, and is currently studying an OU MA module: Understanding Learners with Literacy Difficulties. She now works as a Sixth Form tutor and teacher of RE at Alton Convent School.
Mr John Manning-Smith
Mr Manning-Smith has been a governor at More House School since 2015. He holds an MSc CQSW in Social Work, an MBA and a BSc (Hons) in Sociology and Social Psychology. He has experience of working within statutory health and social care organisations as well as independent providers and the charitable sector. He has worked as an independent consultant and run his own businesses. Married with 4 children and 2 grandchildren John is now semi-retired and runs his own hotel and restaurant in Hampshire. He still retains a keen and current interest in all aspects of education, health and social care.
Mr Colin Shearn
Colin has been a governor since 2014. He has a BSc degree in Biochemistry, and has held numerous senior management roles in global businesses (DHL, BT, Unilever, Mars, Accenture and many others). He has been running his own consultancy business for past 12 years. Colin is actively involved with Working Knowledge, a social enterprise group that develops business skills with students in higher/further education.
Mr William Woellwarth
A governor since 1999, William has a BSc in Building Surveying and has been a professional member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors since 1987 (MRICS). He was an active member of the PTFA at Weydon School for 9 years and has been the Surveyor to the fabric of St Joan of Arc Church since 1997. As a governor he has particular responsibilities for Boarding and Safeguarding.
Mr Patrick Wilson
Mr Wilson has been a governor at More House School since 2005. He has a BA (Hons), MA Cert.Ed and has been a qualified teacher since 1975. He taught in two London schools prior to taking up a Deputy Head position at Blessed George Napier School, Banbury. A post he held for eight years before being appointed as the first lay Headmaster of Salesian College, Farnborough, which was founded in 1901. Mr Wilson served for 17 years as Headmaster until his retirement in August 2014. He was the longest serving Headmaster in its history. He has also been an inspector for 12 years with the ISI (Independent Schools Inspepctorate), is Deputy Chair of Governors at Marist School, Sunninghill alongside his role of governor at More House School. He enjoys traveling and spending time with his Grandchildren.
