Thomas Secures Bright Future

For Thomas Woods, academic success was not something that seemed attainable, like many students at More House School, the largest school of its kind in the U.K which supports bright boys who learn differently, learning within mainstream education was fraught with challenges and causing a rapid erosion of his self-confidence and worth. Today he celebrates a bright future having secured Distinction* in each of his three Level 3 BTEC qualifications Art, Media and Business Studies.

Woods joined More House in 2014 after struggling at his junior school. Needing additional support to learn due to a combination of diagnoses which impacted his literacy and social communication, it was with the careful guidance and support of his class teacher and learning support staff at More House, that Woods slowly grew in confidence and began to find success in many subjects.

Woods has thrived in sixth form, understanding how he learns best, appreciating the small class sizes and accessing the on-site therapeutic support where he recognises he needs to. The steady and consistent support given to Woods throughout his time at the school has given him a vast ‘toolbox’ of strategies and knowledge which allows him to unlock and fully access a mainstream curriculum.

Mrs Woods commented “We are absolutely over the moon that Thomas’ hard work has been rewarded with three Distinction* grades in Art, Media and Business Studies. He has come a long way from the nervous boy who started More House”.

Woods has accepted a place at the University of Arts London (UAL) to read Film and Television Production. Having exceeded expectations he is ready to move on; confident in his academic skills and secure in the knowledge that whatever challenges come his way, he has the resilience and rigour with which to overcome them.

Mrs Woods further commented “We would like to thank everyone at More House School for their gentle support and guidance which has enabled Thomas to achieve grades beyond our expectations and has enabled him to pursue his chosen career”.
