Our school’s vision is to lead in transforming the futures of intelligent young people by empowering them. Boarding plays a vital role in that transformation, offering structure, encouragement, and community every single day. Boarding at More House is not just about where our pupils sleep – it’s a place of friendship, belonging, and opportunity, where boys are supported to become more independent, more resilient, and more themselves.
Whether it’s the warmth of our house staff, the buzz of evening activities, or the quiet confidence that comes from being part of a strong community – boarding at More House offers a unique experience that stays with you long after the school day ends.
Types of boarding
Full Boarding:
Full boarders stay at school seven days a week during term-time, going home on Exeat weekends and during the school holidays.
Weekly Boarding:
Some boys choose to stay at school Monday–Friday during term-time and go home at the weekends.
Whether our boarders stay at school over the weekends or only during the week, they enjoy a rich and varied co-curricular life, with access to:
- On-site clubs including art, drama, music, cookery, sports, prep/homework and more.
- Off-site adventures such as local parks and playgrounds, climbing, swimming and cinema trips.
- Boarding socials including boarders’ BBQs, quiz nights and movie marathons.
Part-time Boarding – NEW in 2026:
Part-time boarding is also offered, as a three-night package, subject to availability. Part-time boarding can be discussed during the Admissions process. Please contact Admissions to find out more: [email protected] 01252 792303 (option 4).

Why choose boarding?
Our residential provision works hand-in-hand with our specialist teaching, creating a consistent, nurturing environment where boys with literacy and language-related special educational needs, including Dyslexia and Developmental Language Disorder, grow, connect and thrive.
Here, boarding is not just a practical solution. It’s a transformational experience that helps neurodiverse boys find their voice, build lasting friendships, and grow into confident, capable young men. We encourage exploration, creativity and fun—while ensuring dedicated time for academic preparation and homework support. Through strong pastoral care, meaningful routines, and a rich variety of experiences beyond the classroom, we empower our boarders to take ownership of their development, overcome challenges, and discover strengths they never knew they had.
A home-from-home, no matter the distance
You do not have to live nearby to access the life-changing support available at More House School. Our specialist boarding provision is a lifeline for many families who live further afield or are in situations where daily travel is just not practical. We proudly welcome families from across the UK and beyond.
Many choose More House School because they do not have easy access to specialist schools locally, and they are seeking a safe, structured, and nurturing home-from-home where their son will be understood, supported, and celebrated. We are also a trusted choice for service and military families who need stability and continuity during regular postings. Our boarding provision offers a dependable foundation, consistent care, expert support, and a strong sense of belonging.
Boarding at More House means young people can access:
- Outstanding teaching tailored for neurodiverse learners.
- 24/7 pastoral care that supports social, emotional, and behavioural development.
- Safe, structured routines and a sense of belonging that is not disrupted by travel or change.

Our boarding community
Our boarding provision is truly bespoke. We are a close-knit community, led by experienced Houseparents and shaped by the voices of our pupils.
- Dedicated house staff – Our staff work full time in the boarding provision, meaning every pupil is known and valued. Low staff-to-student ratios facilitate meaningful relationships, personalised support, and a consistent presence that helps pupils feel safe, understood, and confident to grow.
- Pupil voice & leadership – Boarding Prefects and House Councils help shape routines, activities and community life.
- Collaborative culture – We celebrate individuality, while building trust, tolerance and shared responsibility.
Small ratios, big impact
One of the most distinctive strengths of our boarding provision is our exceptionally low staff-to-student ratio. This is not simply about supervision—it’s about nurturing meaningful relationships. For our pupils with additional needs, smaller ratios create the time and space for our residential staff to develop a deep, individualised understanding of each boarder: their strengths, challenges, routines, and the conditions in which they flourish.
This approach allows us to:
- Identify concerns early — enabling timely, proactive support before challenges escalate.
- Deliver highly personalised care — with calm, consistent responses tailored to each young person’s unique profile.
- Recognise and reinforce progress — celebrating the big moments and small steps in ways that foster motivation and self-belief.
- Build strong, trusting relationships — essential for pupils who may have felt misunderstood or unsupported in larger or less specialist environments.
In short, our staffing model empowers our staff to offer care that is not just responsive, but transformative.
Progress with purpose
Every More House boarder is on a unique journey, and we do not expect them all to follow the same path. Instead, we celebrate individual growth, recognising that each boy has his own strengths and areas for development. That is why we do not rely on one-size-fits-all metrics. Instead, we track each pupil’s progress against their own targets, using a personalised approach that highlights how far they have come and what comes next. Boarding staff work closely with day-school colleagues to build a complete picture of each student’s development — not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and behaviourally too.
Progress is monitored with a focus on our school’s three core values: Kindness, Spirit and Responsibility. These aren’t just words— they are the foundations of how our boarders live, grow, and support one another every day.
