More House’s greatest asset is its outstanding team of staff and governors. Explore the sections below to learn more.

The Core Leadership Group

More House School Staff - Mr Hetherington

Mr Jonathan Hetherington

Headmaster

BA(Hons) MSc(Ed.) QTS NPQEL

Headmaster of More House School for the past decade, Jonathan is currently the National Chair, non-executive director and a trustee of the Independent Schools Association, a non-executive director of the Independent Schools Council, a trustee of the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity, and a committee member of the Independent Schools Council Advisory Group for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Appointed Headmaster in 2015, Jonathan has taught English at More House School for over twenty years.  Having grown up on the edge of the Fens in Cambridgeshire, Jonathan completed the International Baccalaureate in the Sixth Form at Impington before gaining his BA (Hons) English Literature from the University of Southampton in 2002.  Arriving at More House School in 2004, Jonathan completed the Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) and was awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in 2005.

Prior to headship, Jonathan held a range of leadership positions at More House, including Head of Year, Head of English, Head of Sixth Form and Deputy Head (Head of Boarding).  He completed the Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership and Strategic Management, awarded by Leicester University in 2014 and, more recently, was awarded the National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL) in 2024.

Jonathan has experience as a school governor and continues to serve on the pre-registration committee for CReSTeD (the Council for the Registration of Schools Teaching Dyslexic pupils).

Jonathan lives on the school site with his wife, Lizzy, and their children, James and Isabelle.  A keen church bellringer, Jonathan leads the More House School Bellringing Society and is the Safeguarding Officer for the Guildford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers.  Jonathan admits to being a lapsed cellist and drummer.  Capitulating to sustained pressure from his son, James, Jonathan has recently begun playing club cricket for Tilford and, despite James’ intense training regime in the nets, considers himself very much an eleventh man novice.

More House School Staff - Mr Lewis

Mr Piers Lewis

Chief Operating Officer and Clerk to the Governors

BA(Hons) MBA MSc FCM1

Piers joined the school in June 2024 assuming the new role of Chief Operating Officer (subsuming the previous role of Bursar) following a diverse career across defence, children’s charity sector and consultancy.

The first 16 years of his career centred in the Army Air Corps, primarily flying the Apache helicopter, including three operational tours of Afghanistan.  He also commanded 656 Squadron developing new rapid deployment strategies and initiating an Arctic capability and new tactics working from aircraft carriers in the UK, Mediterranean, and in the Arabian Gulf.  Outside of that, he was an instructor, managed the future plans for the Apache force and conducted the strategic planning and budgeting for three of the helicopter types in the UK inventory from the MOD Head Office in Whitehall.

Since leaving the military, Piers has worked in PricewaterhouseCoopers as a procurement and cost consultant in a variety of sectors, managed the global logistics and procurement function for the multi-national Plan International children’s charity, and headed up all projects and programmes in a local defence contractor.

Piers maintains linkages with his military background as the President of an active veterans association and can regularly be seen marching at the Cenotaph on each Remembrance Sunday.  Outside of that, he enjoys a good challenge, completing the Marathon des Sables, Devizes to Westminster canoe race and even crossed the Pacific and dodging Arctic icebergs on various sailing expeditions in the last 10 years.  He also flies light aeroplanes and sails with his young children in his spare time as well as coaching under 9s at Petersfield Rugby Club. Piers can often be found at the back gate at pick up with his English Springer Spaniel, Chester, and looks forward to connecting with as many parents as possible.

More House School Staff - Mr Clarkson

Mr Lewis Clarkson

Principal Deputy Head (Head of School)

BA(Hons) MA(Ed) PGCE QTS PGCert NPQH

Lewis joined More House in 2013 following the completion of his BA in History and the Modern World from the University of Winchester. He has, more recently, completed both an MA in Education from the University of Buckingham as well as the National Professional Qualification for Headship.

Lewis has previously spent time in Australia at Barker College, Sydney, better understanding alternative approaches to education, but also considering the effectiveness of the delivery of SEND education in a vastly different setting.

Lewis draws on experience as a former Head of Year, overseeing pupil development as Director of Pupil Progress, the development of approaches to behaviour and attendance as Assistant Head – Pupils and Deputy Head (Pastoral), and now leads the day-to-day running of More House as its Head of School.

Aside from school, Lewis very much enjoys spending time with his wife and son, but also has a keen interest in many sports, including football, running, padel and golf.

More House School Staff - Ms Rositano

Ms Alex Rositano

Deputy Head (Head of Residential)

BA(Hons) Dip Ed

Alex joined More House School in September 2022 as Deputy Head (Head of Residential) and also serves as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Officer. Originally from Australia, she moved to the UK in 2014 to pursue her career in boarding and pastoral care. With degrees in Psychology and International Studies, a qualification in secondary teaching, and extensive experience in boarding schools across both Australia and England, Alex brings a thoughtful and well-rounded approach to residential life.

Before joining More House, she was Head of House, part of the counselling team and the Foundationer Welfare Coordinator at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School in Reigate, where she juggled pastoral care, behaviour support, and well-being provision.

Outside of school, Alex, and her partner Josh, can usually be found chasing after their daughter Hadley and their pug, Lola.

Mr Damian Allen

Deputy Head (Academic)

BA(Hons) MA(Ed) PGCE QTS

Joining the school as Deputy Head Academic, Damian brings a breadth of experience across both academic and pastoral leadership. Prior to this role, he served as Head of Pupil Progress on the Senior Leadership Team at Duke of Kent School, drawing also on earlier positions as a Head of Year and a Head of Faculty. Alongside his school-based leadership, Damian holds an MA in Education and currently supervises Masters students for the University of Buckingham, supporting them through their course and assessing both their essays and dissertations.

His work is underpinned by a strong commitment to SEND provision and a belief in unlocking the potential of every pupil, ensuring that each young person is supported to achieve their very best.

Outside of school, Damian enjoys spending time with my family, attempting new DIY projects, and fitting in a run whenever he can.

Mrs Roberta Biggs

Assistant Head (Pastoral) & Teacher of Mathematics

BA (Hons) PGCE QTS

Roberta began her career working in financial services in London before taking a busy career break to raise her five children, a role that has taught her much about multitasking and negotiation! She then gained valuable experience in education at a local primary school before joining More House School in 2019.

Roberta holds a degree in Sociology from Royal Holloway, University of London, and a PGCE from the University of Buckingham. She brings a warm, empathetic, and thoughtful approach to her work and is passionate about pastoral care and supporting pupils through key transitions — whether settling into school life at More House, moving between year groups, or teaching essential life skills to prepare young people for the wider world.

Outside of school, Roberta enjoys running (with a marathon on her to-do list), cheering from the side lines, current affairs and boating. Maltese by birth, and raised in Birmingham, she also enjoys trips back to Birmingham, Malta and beyond.

More House School Staff - Mrs Margesson

Mrs Eleanor Margesson

Assistant Head (Training & Outreach) & Teacher of English

BA(Hons) PGDip PGCE QTS NPQLTD

Eleanor is an English Teacher with many years of experience in different sectors of education. As Assistant Head (Training and Outreach), her aim is to develop support and training for teachers, through Learning Beyond the Label, both at More House and beyond.

Eleanor is married to Nick and has two adult children, one of whom attended More House school from Year 4 through to the end of the Sixth Form.

Mrs Sarah Cavannagh

Head of the Learning Development Centre & Lead Occupational Therapist

DipCOT MRCOT PGCert

Sarah qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1988 and worked initially in a variety of adult care and rehabilitation settings. She transferred to working in Paediatrics in 1998 and has worked in a number of educational settings. She joined More House in November 2004, initially providing therapy for those boys statemented for Occupational Therapy, and was asked to set up an Occupational Therapy department in 2007 to provide this support to all pupils who would benefit from it.

She took over the running of the Learning Development Centre in 2014 and under her leadership, the Learning Development Team constantly strives to reflect upon and develop the support it offers to pupils in the school, incorporating evidence from best practice. She strongly believes that the integration of therapy and teaching within the school allows the opportunity and flexibility to provide fully for each individual pupil’s needs.

Sarah undertook a Postgraduate Certificate in Language, Literacy and Dyslexia to achieve Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association.

The Board of Governors

The board of governors consists of volunteers who serve as governors, charity trustees, and non-executive directors of the not-for-profit school. They come from diverse professional backgrounds to provide oversight and strategic direction. The full board meets at least four times a year, with governors also participating in sub-committees. Governors act as ambassadors for the school, must adhere to Charity law, and typically are not parents of current pupils. However, parents of former students may apply based on their skills and experience. Governors are responsible for appointing and supporting the Headmaster and ensuring the quality of the school’s provision, as well as overseeing the charity’s assets.

Correspondence for the Chair of Governors should be marked as such, and may be posted to More House School, Moons Hill, Frensham, Farnham, Surrey, GU10 3AP, or may be sent electronically to the Clerk to the Governors, at [email protected].

Mr Glenn Handley

MBA - Chair of Governors

Glenn Handley is Founder and Managing Director of SecFin Solutions Limited, an independent advisory and education consultancy specialising in repo, securities finance, and digital assets. He brings over 34 years of senior market experience, including as Managing Director and Global Head of G10 Rates Cash Financing Solutions at HSBC.

Glenn was a founding member of the Bank of England Working Group on Sterling Risk-Free Reference Rates — the group that selected SONIA as the sterling benchmark — and co-chaired the UK Money Market Code Sub-Committee. He is also a recognised Expert Witness in securities financing matters.

In the independent school sector, Glenn serves as Chair of Governors at More House School and was appointed as a Director and Trustee of AGBIS in March 2026. He holds an Executive MBA from Bayes Business School and a Digital Asset Readiness Framework qualification from Cambridge Judge Business School.

Mrs Helen Bell

Committees: Finance & General Purposes; Development, Estates & Marketing. Finance Governor.

MA(Hons) ACA

Helen’s career is in Finance and Business. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG, Helen joined Newton Investment Management as a Global Analyst, covering the Consumer Goods sector. Towards the end of her 13 years at the company, Helen focussed on investment projects and team management, supporting the Chief Investment Officer.

Helen took a career break in 2016 to focus on her family. After a time, she began working with a start-up business, Rosalena Skincare, and jointly led on its growth and development into a niche, premium skincare brand. The business was sold last year, allowing Helen more time to pursue her long-held ambition to be a Governor at More House as well as think about her next entrepreneurial challenges.

Helen has two children, one of whom is currently at More House, and lives in Surrey. She firmly believes that More House is an exceptional and unique school, helping boys and their families in so many ways and, above all, enabling them to believe that anything, and everything, is possible.

Mrs Charlotte Burnell

Committees: Safeguarding & Welfare; Teaching, Learning & Therapy. Deputy Safeguarding Governor.

Charlotte Burnell is a special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) advocate, supporting families to secure the right educational provision for children and young people with SEND since 2015. Starting originally as a trained volunteer at SEND charity SOS!SEN, where she still volunteers today, she created EHCP Advocacy in early 2023, helping parents through the SEND and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes and to understand their child’s entitlement to support in education under current legislation.

Her background spans over 35 years of senior communication and consulting roles in the public service, defence, technology and real estate sectors for companies such as Serco Group plc, BAE Systems plc, Cushman and Wakefield, Virtual Clarity, (now part of DXC Technology), Idox plc and Claris (formerly part of Apple Computers). She has experience in marketing and corporate communications within international, complex and regulatory environments, and for organisations undergoing transformational change.

She is a parent of a former pupil at More House School.

Mr Paul Coby

Committees: Chair of Governance & Nominations; Finance & General Purposes

Paul Coby is Group Chief Information Officer (CIO) in charge of digital technology at Persimmon Homes and has been CIO at British Airways, John Lewis Partnership and Johnson Matthey. He has been a non-executive Director on several companies including Virgin Money and was Chair of SITA which provides IT services to the world’s airlines and airports.

Paul has championed how businesses use technology to support their customers and workforce in a world where business models are being transformed by the web, data, social media and AI. He was a chair of the eSkills CIO panel which developed new practical degree courses in technology and set up computer clubs for girls to encourage schoolgirls to develop their skills in IT. He is passionate about technology innovation and set up JLAB, the John Lewis tech innovation laboratory, to work with start-ups in the UK in applying innovative digital solutions to shopping online and in stores.

Paul is a father of three, his son having attended and greatly benefitted from More House’s teaching and support. Paul studied history at Cambridge and has a lifelong interest in history and archaeology. He has recently published a book on ‘Forts and Roman Strategy’ and is writing another one about the Roman invasions of Britain. Paul and his wife Sally share a love of travel and world music, and Paul continues to work on a model railway which will never be finished!
