‘Guys & Dolls,’ Bridge Theatre, London

Last half-term, the More House School Performing Arts pupils visited the Bridge Theatre in London to watch the live show, ‘Guys & Dolls".

Below is a review of the show by Year 9 pupil, Harry:

‘Guys & Dolls’ premiered on Broadway in 1950, and is today considered one of the leading musical romantic comedies of all time. With such a big responsibility, London’s Bridge Theatre does not disappoint in Nicolas Hytner’s thrilling production. ‘Guys and Dolls’ is set in the bustling streets of New York City. It tells the story of two unlikely couples, petty gangsters and their ‘dolls’. High-roller Sky Masterton falls in love with mission worker Sarah Brown, and Nathan Detroit has been engaged for many years to Miss Adelaide. The main message of their story is that love conquers all.

The staging is an amazing immersive experience for those members of the audience who stand. Rising and falling platforms stage the show right in the middle of the audience, which bring you very close to the action. It is a bold and dynamic recreation of New York City at the time of Prohibition. You can feel the energy of the performers in their enthusiastic singing and dancing. They are a talented group and bring the story to life with humour and passion. It makes for a wonderful evening. Your feet might be a bit sore at the end, but you will be happy you went!
