More House School

More recycling than ever before

New recycling initiative gaining ground

As the school opened its doors after Easter, a new recycling initiative was announced. The school had always been proactive in ensuring efficient disposal of waste, but Bursar, Dr Roberts, realised there was a greater opportunity to reduce waste and lower waste removal costs.

After much research and meetings, Grundon Waste Management were appointed the new contractors. A UK wide, family operated company founded in 1929, they have developed a distinctive approach that has helped them to maintain a leading position within the industry. This approach is underpinned by their commitment to quality of service, innovation and technical progress, together with a genuine and demonstrable concern for the environment.

On site there are noticeably more bins to allow for the separation of different materials, waste collection is more frequent and the whole school community is engaged in applying their domestic recycling habits at school, with our ever diligent Caretaking and Maintenance team overseeing the new initiative.

In our first month we have saved five trees, 299kgs of CO2 and generated 0.42 MWh of power! This time next year we may have saved a forest!
